چکیده

Source separation is a widely studied problems in signal processing. Despite the permanent progress reported in the literature it is still considered a significant challenge. This chapter first reviews the use of non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) algorithms for solving source separation problems, and proposes a new way for the supervised training in NMF. Matrix factorization methods have received a lot of attention in recent year in the audio processing community, producing particularly good results in source separation. Traditionally, NMF algorithms consist of two separate stages: a training stage, in which a generative model is learned; and a testing stage in which the pre-learned model is used in a high level task such as enhancement, separation, or classification. As an alternative, we propose a tasksupervised NMF method for the adaptation of the basis spectra learned in the first stage to enhance the performance on the specific task used in the second stage. We cast this problem as a bilevel optimization program efficiently solved via stochastic gradient descent. The proposed approach is general enough to handle sparsity priors of the activations, and allow non-Euclidean data terms such as β-divergences. The framework is evaluated on speech enhancement.

Source-filter Based Clustering for Monaural Blind Source Separation

In monaural blind audio source separation scenarios, a signal mixture is usually separated into more signals than active sources. Therefore it is necessary to group the separated signals to the final source estimations. Traditionally grouping methods are supervised and thus need a learning step on appropriate training data. In contrast, we discuss unsupervised clustering of the separated channe...

An Experimental Survey on Non-Negative Matrix Factorization for Single Channel Blind Source Separation

In applications such as speech and audio denoising, music transcription, music and audio based forensics, it is desirable to decompose a single-channel recording into its respective sources, commonly referred to as blind source separation (BSS). One of the techniques used in BSS is non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). In NMF both supervised and unsupervised mode of operations is used. Among...

Intelligent Single-Channel Methods for Multi-Source Audio Analysis

This thesis investigates the potential of recent machine learning methods for the challenging task of single-channel, multi-source audio audio analysis, i.e., information extraction from single-channel audio where the sources of interest (e.g., speech) are mixed with multiple interfering sources. First, it is shown that source separation by recently proposed techniques for non-negative matrix f...

Mixtures of Gamma Priors for Non-negative Matrix Factorization Based Speech Separation

This paper deals with audio source separation using supervised non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). We propose a prior model based on mixtures of Gamma distributions for each sound class, which hyperparameters are trained given a training corpus. This formulation allows adapting the spectral basis vectors of the sound sources during actual operation, when the exact characteristics of the so...

Improving Score-Informed Source Separation for Classical Music through Note Refinement

Signal decomposition methods such as Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) demonstrated to be a suitable approach for music signal processing applications, including sound source separation. To better control this decomposition, NMF has been extended using prior knowledge and parametric models. In fact, using score information considerably improved separation results. Nevertheless, one of the...
